As the recession comes to an end, many people are looking for fun hobby’s to spend their new disposable income on. Good cheap go karts can cure that need.
It is a good wholesome fun project for you and your kids to put together on your own, and they may even get into it so much that they take up a passion for racing go karts.
You can get a go kart in many different sizes and styles. Some will have engines yet others will run on pedal power. If you’re considering racing, you will be ready for the soapbox racing circuit. Building your own go kart comes with its own rewards. You will have a compact little vehicle that you can ride around and enjoy. There are a wide variety of materials to make your go kart out of. Wood is the most common material for making a pedal-power go kart more commonly referred to as a soapbox racer. You will need strong, durable wood screws as an essential item to hold the joints together. The seat can either be made from plywood or recycled from another piece of wood that is scrap. You will also need a screwdriver and wood glue if you plan to build a wooden go kart.
Start with the frame. You will need to make a cross frame for support of the weight of the rider in the box seat. The main chassis should be made using a thicker wood than the rest of the kart. You will also need new or recycled wheels and axles. The steering device can be constructed of a steering wheel or by putting rope tied to the left and right sides of the front axle.
Once the go kart is fully constructed paint it. Bike brakes work quite well in addition. Brakes are optional but if chose to use them, these will work great. Wooden are not built for high speed, so bike brakes will work fine.
Cheap go karts are easy to make with a kit. You can even use your own design if you go with a wooden go kart. This is not the most popular type of go kart but there is a large following for soapbox racers or cheap go karts.
